About Lady Doak College

Founded in 1948 in Madurai by Ms. Katie Wilcox, Lady Doak College is a pioneering institution committed to women's education and empowerment. Academic autonomy was granted in 1978, making it one of the first autonomous institutions in India. A challenging curriculum, integrated with relevant academic programmes, co-curricular activities, exposure initiatives, and a strong student support system, has positioned the college at the forefront of higher education.

The college currently offers 26 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate programmes, along with a wide range of PG diploma, diploma, and certificate courses. Among its greatest strengths are the vibrant science departments that foster curiosity, research, and innovation.

Physical Sciences

Led by the Department of Physics, this division provides strong theoretical foundations supported by advanced laboratories, preparing students for research and technology-driven careers.

Chemical Sciences

Anchored by the Department of Chemistry, it is renowned for state-of-the-art laboratories, a balanced focus on pure and applied chemistry, and pioneering research in areas such as green chemistry and materials science.

Biological Sciences

With well-established departments in Botany, Zoology, and Biotechnology, this division imparts a deep understanding of living systems while encouraging hands-on experimentation, field studies, and community outreach on issues like biodiversity, food security, and sustainability.

Together, the Physical, Chemical, and Biological Science departments combine rigorous academics with real-world applications, producing graduates who are both knowledgeable and socially responsible. The science departments have consistently received support for teaching, research, and development from national funding agencies, including College with Potential for Excellence – UGC, STAR College Scheme – DBT, FIST Support – DST, CURIE Programme – DST. With dedicated faculty, modern infrastructure, and national as well as international research collaborations, Lady Doak College continues to be a centre of excellence in science education for women.

About the Conclave

Academia-Industry-Innovation Conclave (AIIC-2025) with the theme "Science Driven-Industry Powered-Future Focused" is the first of its kind programme at Lady Doak College. This conclave seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical studies and practical applications by providing a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, showcasing cutting-edge innovations, and promoting research and development initiatives of industries.

AIIC-2025 will serve as a strategic networking opportunity for researchers, industry partners, and entrepreneurs, supporting the creation of sustainable startup ecosystems through exhibitions, startup pitch sessions, and interactive engagements.

This Scientific endeavour carries profound relevance in today's national context as it aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises experiential learning, skill development, and fostering innovation within higher education. The focus on sustainable product development directly aligns with India's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national initiatives such as Digital India, Make in India, Startup India, and the Atal Innovation Mission, thereby contributing to an innovation-driven, self-reliant economy. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, problem-solving, and practical learning, the conclave empowers participants to design eco-friendly, socially impactful solutions to pressing real-world challenges.
