The Department of Chemistry established in the year 1957, currently offers B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil, Ph.D in Chemistry and Diploma in Informatics for Drug Designing. In the academic year 2008-2009, the department took a pioneering effort to integrate the B.Sc.(Spl.) Chemistry curriculum with informatics and offered B.Sc. Degree programme as B.Sc.(Spl.) Chemistry with Cheminformatics. The programme was first of its kind even at the national level during that period. A state of art Cheminformatics Lab was established with the support of DBT-Star college scheme in the year 2008. As the department developed expertise in the field of Cheminformatics, a Diploma programme in Informatics for Drug Designing was introduced in the year 2012-2013. In recent years, the chemistry curriculum has been modified with the principles of Green Chemistry in the lab courses, the introduction of skill development courses such as Organic Consumer Products and Textile Chemical Processing for M.Sc. Chemistry and the introduction of value added courses at the UG and PG level.
